What is the Time to Learn website all about?
The website is linked to the Time to Learn database of courses. You can search for a course by category, subject, venue or date.
We suggest you read the site help first.
The search results will show you everything suitable that meets your criteria. You can find out more about individual courses or course providers by following the links.
Colleges that are members of the Adult Residential Colleges Association (ARCA) are marked with the ARCA logo.
If you want to enquire about course availability or if you have any other queries, please contact the course provider directly - there is a link to an enquiry form in the
search results and on each course detail page.

Do I need any academic or other qualifications in order to enrol on a course?
No, but where courses are run at different levels (eg, beginners, intermediate, advanced) then the course provider will provide guidance on the appropriate level.
Most courses are not related to qualifications but some can lead to the award of a certificate by a recognised awarding body - including City & Guilds.

What do the course fees cover?
The prices quoted give the range of fees covering tuition, accommodation and meals.
Some course providers offer a choice of accommodation (eg, single or twin, ensuite or standard rooms). You may find that there are additional charges for such items as materials or equipment or for optional trips but the course providers will advise on this when you book.
Also, some offer fee reductions or concessions in special circumstances, such as if you're in receipt of benefits.

What about conditions of bookings?
Always read the course providers' conditions carefully before you book.
Each college or centre has its own policy for deposits, cancellations and refunds.
You may want to take out insurance to cover yourself in case you have to cancel - some course providers can arrange this for you when you book.

Usually the booking form will ask if you have any special dietary needs, medical condition or any special requirements.

Are courses suitable for people going on their own or with friends or family?
Yes, yes and yes!
If you're going on your own you'll be sure to meet like-minded people and quickly make new friends. You can book to go with a friend or partner and so possibly share a room. Some venues are happy to provide accommodation only for partners or friends not attending a course.
And finally some providers run learning breaks specifically as family activities.

How does the website relate to the printed directory?
The website and the printed directory complement each other. The book is published twice a year - the summer edition covers April-September, the winter edition October-March.
The book covers a particular six-month period, whereas the website listings are not restricted - they can go further into the future.
Some people prefer a book to browse through and it's a good way to get a broad picture of the range of courses and some initial ideas before searching the website.
